わが国の固有種で、本州の中部地方以北から東北地方南部に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯に生え、高さは２０〜３０センチになります。葉は「よもぎ」に似て、羽状に深裂します。８月から９月ごろ、茎の先に黄色い頭花を咲かせます。花はすべて筒状花です。和名は、岩場に生える「茵陳（よもぎの漢名）」ということから。

キク科キク属の多年草で、学名は Dendranthema rupestre。英名はありません。

The "Iwa-inchin" (Dendranthema rupestre) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is an endemic species of Japan, and distributed northward from Chubu district of Honahu to southern Tohoku district. This herb grows in sub-alpine to alpine areas, and can reach 20-30 cm in height. The leaves resemble to Mugwort (Artemisia princeps) and are divided deep pinnately. The yellow flower-heads bloom atop of stems from August to September. The Japanese name means "inchin" (mugwort) which grows on rocky places.
