"Iwa-shajin" (Adenophora takedae) belongs to Campanulaceae (the Bellflower family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from the western part of the Kanto region to the southeastern part of the Chubu region of Honshu, Japan. It grows in moist, rocky, gravelly areas in the mountains, with slender, arching stems 30-70 cm long. The leaves are lanceolate to broadly linear and alternate, and purple bell-shaped flowers bloom in racemes at the top of the stem from September to October. The style does not protrude from the corolla.
