中国の東北部から朝鮮半島に分布しています。渓谷の岩地など湿り気のあるところに生え、高さは１５〜２０センチになります。４月から５月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして先端に集散花序をつけ、白い花を咲かせます。名前は、葉のかたちが「やつで（八手）」に似ていることから。別名で「たんちょうそう（丹頂草）」とも呼ばれます。

ユキノシタ科イワヤツデ属の多年草で、学名は Mukdenia rossii。英名はありません。

"Iwa-yatsude" (Mukdenia rossii) belongs to Saxifragaceae (the Saxifrage family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Northeastern China to the Korean Peninsula. This herb grows in wettish places, such as rocky areas of valley, and up to a height of 15-20 cm. It grows up the flower stalks and blooms white flowers in the terminal cymes from April to May. The Japanese name is because the shape of the leaf resembles "Japanese aralia".
