The "Izu-yabu-sotetsu" (Cyrtomium atropunctatum) belongs to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed from Shizuoka Prefecture on Honshu westward to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. It grows in forests and on the edges of forests in mountainous areas, and can reach a height of 40 to 50 cm. The leaves are pinnate compound that are dark green, slightly shiny, and have a stiff papery texture. The lateral pinnae are broadly lanceolate, with 10 to 20 pairs, and the base is wedge-shaped with no auricles. There is a terminal pinna. Dark brown scales grow at the base of the petiole. Sorus are scattered over the entire surface of the pinna, and the indisum is round with a blackish brown center.
