中央アメリカから南アメリカに１００種あまりが分布し、そのほとんどがアンデス山地北部です。冷涼な標高の高い山地に生え、着生します。球茎は扁平な卵形で、先端から１〜３個の葉をだします。花茎をのばして、平開した花を咲かせます。多くの交配種が作出されています。

ラン科オドントグロッスム属の常緑多年草で、学名は Odontoglossum sp.（属の総称）。英名はありません。

The Odontoglossum genus belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). These are evergreen perennial herbs that have over 100 species and distributedis from Central America to Sounth America, with most species around the northern Andes. These orchids are epiphytes and grow in cool to cold high mountains. The corms are compressed ovate and come into 1-3 leaves. The flowers come on the stalks and the petals and sepals are spreading. Many cultivars have been breeded.
