The "Ogasawara-moku-mao" (Boehmeria densiflora var. boninensis) belongs to Urticaceae (the Nettle family). It is a small evergreen tree that is an endemic species of Japan's Ogasawara Islands. It grows on rocky slopes from the coast to the mountains, reaching a height of about 2 m. The branches are highly branched and densely covered with coarse hairs throughout. The leaves are oblong to long ovate, with fine serrations along the margins, and are opposite. The leaf surface is also rough. From March to June, it produces spike-like inflorescences in the leaf axils, bearing numerous small, slightly pinkish-white flowers. Some theories consider it the same species as "柳葉木苧麻" (Yanagiba-moku-mao).
