"Oguruma" (Inula britannica ssp. japonica) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in various parts of Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and northeastern China. It grows in sunny moist grasslands and marshy areas, and grows 20 to 60 cm tall. The cauline leaves are soft, broadly lanceolate to oblong, pointed at the tip, and enfold the stem. Yellow flower heads bloom at the tips of branched stems from July to October. The Japanese name is derived from the radial ray florets, which resemble small wheels. In Chinese, it is called "旋覆花" (xuan fu hua).
