エクアドルの南部からペルー北部に分布しています。アンデス山脈の西斜面に生え、高さは７メートルになります。直径は５〜２５センチです。１８〜２５個の稜があります。稜や先端は大部分、羊毛のような組織で隠されています。数年間の後、分枝します。数年後、夜に側面の花座に花を咲かせます。

Peruvian old man cactus (Espostoa lanata) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a columnar cactus that is distributed from southern Ecuador to the northern Peru. This cactus grows on the west slopes of the Andes mountains, and up to a height of 7 m. The diameter is from 5 to 20 cm. There are 18 to 25 ribs. The ribs and the sharp are mainly hidden by tissue woolly. It branches only after several years. It flowers at night from a lateral cephalium after several years.
