メキシコの中部、イダルゴ州からグアナフアト州に分布しています。円柱状に成長し、直径４５センチ、高さは１１メートルほどになります。幹には１２〜３０稜があり、１〜５個の中心棘と２０〜３０個の長い白毛状の側棘がつきます。４月ごろ、夜に直径５センチほどの淡いピンク色の花を咲かせます。果実は液果で黄色い毛に被われ、桃紅色に熟します。

サボテン科ケファロケレウス属の柱サボテンで、学名は Cephalocereus senilis。英名は Old man cactus、Old man of Mexico。

The Old man cactus (Cephalocereus senilis) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a treelike cuctus that is distributed in central Mexico, from Hidalgo to Guanajuato. It grows in a columnar form, 45 cm in diameter and up to 11 m high. The trunk has 12 to 30 ribs with 1 to 5 central spines and 20 to 30 long white hairy lateral spines. Pale pink flowers, about 5 cm in diameter, bloom at night around April. The berry is a berry covered with yellow hairs and ripens to a peach-red color.
