わが国の九州南部から沖縄諸島、大東諸島に分布しています。海岸地帯の岩上に生え、高さは１５〜４５センチになります。葉は倒卵状楕円形で、茎に対生または３〜５輪生します。茎や葉は無毛です。２月から４月ごろ、茎頂または枝先に穂状花序をだし、小さな目立たない花を咲かせます。別名では「けなしさだそう（毛無佐多草）」と呼ばれます。分類学的には「さだそう（佐多草）」と分けないこともあります。環境省のレットブックでは絶滅危惧ＩＢ類（ＥＮ）に指定されています。

コショウ科サダソウ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Peperomia japonica var. okinawensis (syn. Peperomia okinawensis)。英名はありません。

The "Okinawa-suna-gosho" (Peperomia japonica var. okinawensis) belongs to Piperaceae (the Pepper family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from southern Kyushu to the Okinawa Islands and the Daito Islands. It grows on rocks in coastal areas and reaches a height of 15 to 45 cm. The leaves are obovate-elliptical and arranged oppositely on the stem or in whorls of three to five. The stems and leaves are glabrous. From around February to April, it produces spike-like inflorescences at the stem apex or branch tips, bearing small, inconspicuous flowers. It is also known by the alternative name "Kenashi-sada-so" (Hairless Sada-so). Taxonomically, it is sometimes not distinguished from "Sada-so". It is designated as Endangered (EN) in Category IB in the Ministry of the Environment's Red List.
