The Wart fern (Microsorium scolopendria) belongs to the family Polypodiaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is widely distributed from Okinawa Prefecture in Japan south to Taiwan, Southeast Asia, Polynesia, and Africa. It grows on tree tops, trunks, and rocks along streams. The thick leathery leaves are ovate-elliptic with deep pinnate lobes. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "海岸星蕨". In Hawaii, it was used to scent cloth.
