The "Ominaeshi" (Patrinia scabiosaefolia) belongs to Valerianaceae (the Valerian family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed widely throughout Japan and eastern Asia. This herb grows in sunny grasslands and can reach 60-120 cm in height. The stem is erect and branched at the upper part. The leaves are pinnatipartite. The colymbs are borne and bloom small yellow flowers from August to October. The 6th-8th and 19th-20th photos are a dwarf type of "Ominaeshi". Its Japanese name is derived from "ominameshi", which means "omen's rice", as the flowers resemble millet rice. It is also called "Awa-bana" (millet flower).
