The Oncidium altissimum belongs to Orchdaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in the Lesser Antilles archipelago of the West Indies. It is an epiphytic orchid that grows on land up to 200 meters above sea level. It bears oblong, tongue-shaped leaves at the tips of flattened, elliptic pseudobulbs. The long, arching scapes produce glossy, pale reddish-brown flowers.
