The Tiger lily (Lilium lancifolium) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to throughout Japan, as well as the Korean Penninsula and China. This herb grows in the places near town, and it is thought that it was introduced from China in the ancient days. The bulbs are ovate-round and the stem can reach 1-2 m in height. The leaves are lanceolate and alternate. It bears bulbils on the axils. The dark orange flowers with bluckish-purple mottles on the inside surface come in July and August. It is called "卷丹" (juan dan) in Chinese.
