わが国の本州、中部地方以北および紀伊半島に分布しています。山地から亜高山帯の岩場や草地、湿地などに生え、高さは１０〜１５センチになります。葉は長楕円形で、偽鱗茎から２個がでます。７月から８月ごろ、花茎の先に白色の花を数個咲かせます。唇弁の基部にＷの字形の模様があるのが特徴です。

ラン科ハクサンチドリ属の多年草で、学名は Orchis fauriei (syn. Leucorchis fauriei)。英名はありません。

"Onoe-ran" (Orchis fauriei) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Honshu of Japan; northward from Chubu district and the Kii Peninsula. This herb grows from mountains to subalpine rocks, grasslands, wetlands, and the height is 10 to 15 cm. The several white flowers come on the tip of the flower stalk from July to August. The flower has a W-shaped pattern at the base of the lip.
