わが国の本州北部から北海道に分布しています。山地の湿った林内などに生え、高さは６０〜１００センチになります。茎には稜があり、葉は長楕円形で互生します。裏面は粉白色を帯び、小脈上に微細な突起があります。４月から５月ごろ、葉腋から花柄をだし、長さ２〜２．５センチの白色で先端が緑色の花を２〜４個咲かせます。果実は直径１センチほどの球形で、秋に黒紫色に熟します。

ユリ科ナルコユリ属の多年草で、学名は Polygonatum odoratum var. maximowiczii。英名はありません。

"Oo-amadokoro" (Polygonatum odoratum var. maximowiczii) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to northern Honashu and Hokkaido. This herb grows in moist forests on mountains, and it can reach 60-100 cm in height. The stem is ridged and the leaves are oblong and alternate. The abaxial side of leaves are tinged powdery white with minute projections on the veinlets. The 2-4 flowers bloom on the axillary peduncles from April to May. They are 2-2.5 cm long and having green tips. The fruits are globose, about 1 cm across, and ripen black-purple in fall.
