わが国の本州、紀伊半島および四国・九州に分布しています。山地の谷沿いに生え、高さは２０〜４０センチになります。葉は長卵形で束生し、縁には鋭い欠刻と鋸歯があります。また表面には長い毛が生えます。４月から５月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして多くの小さな花を咲かせます。花弁は羽状に５〜９裂します。

ユキノシタ科チャルメルソウ属の多年草で、学名は Mitella japonica。英名はありません。

"Oo-charumeru-so" (Mitella japonica) belongs to Saxifragaceae (the Saxifrage family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to the Kii Peninsula of Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. It grows along valleys in mountainous areas and is 20 to 40 cm tall. The leaves are long ovate and bunchy, with sharply notched edges and serrations. From April to May, the flower scapes grow and produce many small flowers. The petals are pinnately lobed with 5 to 9 lobes.
