わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道それにユーラシア大陸や北アメリカに広く分布しています。山地の草原などに生え、高さは６０〜８０センチになります。「だいこんそう」に似ていますが、大型で、根生葉の小葉の先端が尖り、縁には粗い鋸歯があります。６月から９月ごろ、黄色い５弁花を咲かせます。中国語では「路邊青（lu bian qing）」と呼ばれます。

バラ科ダイコンソウ属の多年草で、学名は Geum aleppicum。英名は Yellow avens。

The Yellow avens (Geum aleppicum) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido, as well as widely in Eurasian Continent and North America. This herb grows in mountain grasslands and can reach 60-80 cm in height. It resembles to "Daikon-so" (Geum japonicum), though it is difined by the acute tips and coarse toothed edges of radical leaflets. The yellow five-petaled flowers bloom from June to September. It is called "路邊青" (lu bian qing) in Chinese.
