おおいぬのふぐり (大犬の陰嚢)

ヨーロッパが原産です。わが国へは、明治時代の初めに渡来し、いまでは各地でごくふつうに見ることができます。２月から６月ごろ、小さなコバルトブルーの花を咲かせます。離弁花のように見えるますが合弁花です。和名は、果実のかたちが犬の陰嚢（ふぐり）に似ていることから。在来種の「いぬのふぐり（Veronica didyma var. lilacina）」は、ほとんど見ることができなくなりました。 |

ゴマノハグサ科クワガタソウ属の二年草で、学名は Veronica persica。英名は Persian speedwell、Bird's-eye。 |

The Persian speedwell (Veronica persica) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a biennial herb that is native to Europe. It was introduced into Japan in the early days of Meiji Era (about 130 years ago). Nowadays, it can be found all over Japan. This herb blooms small colbalt blue flowers from February to June. The flowers appear to be schizopetalous, but they are gamopetalous. The Japanese name comes from the shape of the fruit, which resembles a dog's scrotum. The native species "Inu-no-fuguri" (Veronica didyma var. lilacina) can hardly be seen anymore. |
