The Beach hibiscus (Hibiscus tiliaceus) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is disributed from the Ryukyu Islands of Japan south to the semi-tropical and tropical regions of Southeast Asia, South Asia and Oceania. This tree grows in coastal areas and up to a height of 4-12 m. The leaves are circular-cordate, green, glossy and the under surface stellate hairs. The flowers are yellow to orange and finally red before they fall. It is used as a windbreak forest and sand protection forest on the coast. It is also called "Yuuna" in another name, and also called "Hau" in Hawaii. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "黄槿".
