わが国の本州、関東地方以西から四国・九州それに南西諸島に分布しています。山地の常緑樹の林内に生え、高さは２０〜５０センチになります。葉は３深裂し、裂片は広卵形から狭卵形です。「からすびしゃく（烏柄杓）」に似ていますが、珠芽（むかご）がつきません。６月から８月ごろ、花茎を伸ばし、緑色または帯紫色の仏炎苞に包まれた花を咲かせます。花には花披がなく、肉穂花序の下部に雌花群、上部に雄花群がつきます。花序の付属体は糸状に長く伸び、仏炎苞からでて直立します。

サトイモ科ハンゲ属の多年草で、学名は Pinellia tripartita。英名は Green dragon。

The Green dragon (Pinellia tripartita) belongs to Araceae (the Arum family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed westward from Kanto district of Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu and the Ryukyu Islands. This tree grows in evergreen forests and can reach 20-50 cm in height. The leaves are trilobate with broad ovate to narrow ovate lobes. It resembles to the Crow dipper (Pinellia ternata), though it is defined that the bulbils do not bear. The flowering stalks are borne and the flowers bloom with green or tinged purple spathes from June to August. The flowers have not perianthes, the female flower bands are borne at the underneath spadix and the male flower bands are borne at the upper one. The elongated appendix is long filiform and grows erect over the spathe.
