The "Oo-koumori-shida" (Thelypteris liukiuensis) belongs to the family Thelypteridaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed from the Okinawa Islands to the Sakishima Islands in Japan, and also in Taiwan. It grows on moist forest floors and on rocks along streams, reaching a height of 30 to 50 cm. The leaf blade is broadly lanceolate and pinnately compound, with 2 to 4 pairs of lateral pinnae. The lateral pinna are elliptic, 7 to 15 cm long and 2 to 3 cm wide, with a tail-like extension at the tip. The sorus are located on the minor veins beneath the leaf, crescent-shaped, and lack indusia. It is called "琉球新月蕨" in Taiwanese Chinese.
