クスノキ科クロモジ属の落葉低木で、学名は Lindera umbellata var. mambranacea。英名はありません。
The "Ooba-kuromoji" (Lindera umbellata var. mambranacea) belongs to Lauraceae (the Laurel family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed southward from southwestern Hokkaido to the Japan Sea side of Honshu in Japan. The leaves are obovate-oblong and about 13 cm long. This tree can reach 2-3 m in height. The barks are grayish brown, smooth and have round lenticels on the surface. The upper parts of trunk are dark green. The pale yellow to pale greenish yellow flowers are drooping down from May to June as soon as foliation. The timbers are aromatic and used as a raw material of tooth picks.
