わが国の本州、日本海側に分布しています。「みすみそう（三角草）」の一品種で、落葉樹林内に生え、高さは１０〜１５センチになります。葉は３浅裂して、長い葉柄があり根生します。３月から５月ごろ、雪解けとともに、直径１５〜２０ミリの花を咲かせます。花弁状の萼片の色には、淡い紅紫色や白色、紅色、紫色などがあります。花が終わると新しい葉が出て、越冬した古い葉は枯れます。別名で「ゆきわりそう（雪割草）」とも呼ばれます。

キンポウゲ科ミスミソウ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Hepatica nobilis var. japonica f. magna (syn. Anemone hepatica var. japonica f. magna)。英名はありません。

The "Oo-misumi-so" (Hepatica nobilis var. japonica f. magna) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed along the Sea of Japan of Honshu in Japan. It grows in deciduous forests and is 10-15 cm tall. It has three shallowly lobed leaves with long petioles and basal growth. 15 to 20 mm in diameter flowers bloom from March to May as the snow melts. The petal-like sepals can be light purple, white, red, or purple in color. After the flowers are finished, new leaves emerge and the old leaves die after overwintering. It is also known as "Yukiwari-so" in Japan.
