"Ooba-mizo-hoozuki" (Mimulus sessilifolius) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district to the Japan Sea side of Honshu, Hokkaido and the Far East of Russia. This herb grows in sub-alpine bogs or alongs streams, and can reach 20-30 cm in height. The leaves are long-ovate, sessile with acute toothed edges, and arranged oppositely. The flowering stalks are borne at the upper axils, and the yellow flowers bloom from July to August. The corolla has reddish brown mottles on the inside surface.
