"Oosaka-zasa" (Sasaella masamuneana f. hashimotoi) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is an evergreen bumboo that is a variety of "Kurio-zasa", which is distributed on Yaku Island and Tanegashima Island in Japan. It is characterized by the presence of hairs on the nodes of its culms. It was described by Tomitaro Makino in 1932, and is considered a synonym of "Kurio-zasa" by Dr. Sadao Suzuki. The standard production area for "Kuriozasa" is Kurio on Yakushima Island, the specimens identified as "Kurio-zasa" or its allotrope have been collected throughout Japan, with the exception of Hokkaido.
