"Oo-shiraga-goke" (Leucobryum scabrum) belongs to the family Leucobryaceae. It is a bryophyte that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as in China, Malaysia, and Thailand. It forms colonies on moist ground or rocks in mountainous forests and grows 5 to 10 cm tall. The stems are erect or oblique. The leaves are lanceolate, about 10 mm long, and conspicuously greenish-gray. In Chinese, it is called "疣白髪蘚" (you bai-fa xian).
