ƒ}ƒc‰Èƒ‚ƒ~‘®‚̏í—΍‚–؂ŁAŠw–¼‚Í Abies mariesiiB‰p–¼‚Í Maries firB 
The Maries fir (Abies mariesii) belongs to Pinaceae (the Pine family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed southward to Tohoku district to Chubu district of Honshu in Japan. The tree grows in sub-alpine region of heavy snow and it can reach occasionally about 30 m in height. The barks are dark gray and close to smooth. The leaves are linear with round tips, and they densely cover on the small branches. The leaves are also somewhat erect and highly visible white abaxial side. The flowers bloom in June. The friuts are upright, columnar strobiles and ripen in bluish-purple. It is also known "Aomori-todomatsu", and the Zao's rime is icing on this tree.
