The Greater wood-rush (Luzula sylvatica) belongs to Juncaceae (the Rush family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Europe to southwest Asia. It is the largest of the genus Luzula (wood-rush). It grows in open woods, meadows, and heaths, and is 30-80 cm tall. The leaves are bright green, glossy and linear with sparse white marginal hairs. The small, chestnut-brown flowers bloom in open panicles at the top of the stem from April to June. It is often used as a groundcover or ornamental grass because of its tendency to form clumps.
