"Oo-tachitsubo-sumire" (Viola kusanoana) belongs to Violaceae (the Viola family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed southward from Hokkaido to Honshu, Shikoku, northern Kyushu and Korea's Ulleungdo and Kuril Islands, and Sakhalin. This herb grows in wettish deciduous forests, forest edges or grasslands, and can reach 15-25 cm in height. The leaves are bright green, round and the veins are concave. The peduncles are borne at the epigeal stem axils, and the pale magenta flowers bloom from April to June. The lower lips has purple fine netted patches at the bases. It is also defined by white spurs.
