「つわぶき」の一品種で、わが国の九州西部に分布しています。海岸近くの岩場に生え、高さは１メートルほどになります。葉は腎円形で幅５０センチほどになり、根生します。１０月から１２月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして、黄色い頭花を咲かせます。

キク科ツワブキ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Farfugium japonicum f. giganteum。英名は Giant leopard plant。

The Giant leopard plant (Farfugium japonicum f. giganteum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is a form of the Japanese silver leaf and native to western Kyushu of Japan. This herb grows in coastal scrags and can reach about 1 m in height. The leaves are reniform-round about 50 cm wide and basal. The flowering stalks are borne and bloom yellow flowerheads from October to December.
