The Tailflower (Anthurium andreanum) belongs to Araceae (the Arum family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from Columbia to Ecuador in South America. This herb belongs to aroid and epiphyte on the other trees. Leaves are bright, glossy green and the spadix covered with vermillion-red spathe. Many cultivars are breeded centrally in Hawaii. Tailflower is also called "Anthurium".
In Korean, it's called "hong-hak-kkot" (홍학꽃). This is a compound word consisting of "flamingo" (hong-hak: 홍학) + "flower" (kkot: 꽃). This is because the shape of the flower resembles a flamingo standing with its back straight; the name is derived from English. It is also known as "Anthurium" (안스리움).
