The Giant leaf bamboo (Indocalamus tessellatus) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is an evergreen bumboo that is distributed in central China, Sichuan Province. It grows in mountainous areas at elevations of 1400 to 2400 m, with slender culms that grow 0.5 to 2.5 m tall. The leaves are 25 to 30 cm long, with the largest reaching 60 cm. In Japan, it is found only in Kagoshima City, Kyushu. It is sometimes classified in the genus Pseudosasa. It is also called "箸竹" (Jachiku) in Japan, and its Chinese name is "箸竹" (ruo zhu).
