おおしまざくら (大島桜)

わが国の本州、房総半島や伊豆半島それに伊豆諸島に分布しています。「かすみざくら（Prunus verecunda）」の海岸型か島嶼型と推定されています。葉は楕円形から倒卵形で重鋸歯があり、互生します。３月から４月ごろ、葉の展開とともに、芳香のある一重の白い花を咲かせます。この若葉の塩漬けは桜餅を包むのに使われ、おもに西伊豆でつくられています。 |

バラ科サクラ属の落葉高木で、学名は Prunus speciosa。英名はありません。 |

The "Ooshima-zakura" (Prunus speciosa) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is distributed to the Boso Peninsula, the Izu Peninsula of Honshu and the Izu Islands. It is estimated to a maritime or island type of "Kasumi-zakura" (Prunus verecunda). The leaves are elliptic to obovate with double-serrated margins, and arranged in alternate. The scented, single, white flowers bloom with new leaves from March to April. The salt pickled leaves are used as a wrapping of cherry rice cake, and produced in the West Izu Peninsula. |
