The Cow's tongue cactus (Opuntia linguiformis) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a prickly pear that is native to Texas in the southern United States. It grows in dry prairies and grows 1.8 to 3 m tall. The stem segments are lanceolate and become very slender with age. They areole with no spines or up to three spines scattered irregularly. The spines are up to 3 cm long, yellow when young and darker with age. In spring, it produces large flowers, usually yellow, sometimes orange to pink or red. Fruits are ovate to barrel-shaped, nearly spine-free, and ripen from red to dark purple. In Kew Gardens' Plants of the World Online (POWO), it is considered a synonym of Opuntia lindheimeri.
