The bog orchid (Orchis palustris) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is native throughout Europe. This herb grows in marshes and damp meadows, to 1150 m elevation, and can reach 30-60 cm in height. The stem is slender. The leaves are narrow lanceolate and unspotted. The loose spike is borne and produces magenta or pale purple, rarely white flowers from April to June. The outer sepals are spreading upwards, the lips are three lobed, and the spurs are horizontal or upward pointing.
