The little pickles (Othonna capensis) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to South Africa; Little Karoo and also not very far from the coast in the Eastern Cape to about Uitenhage. This herb grows in dense clumps on dry rocky flats, and can reach about 10 cm in height. The leaves are succulent, blue-green, 2.5 cm long, and pickle-shaped. It will bloom small daisy like flowers. The leaves are often blushing a purple red when drought stressed.
