The "Otogiri-so" (Hypericum erectum) belongs to the famly Clusiaceae. It is a perennial herb that is native to Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin. This herb grows in sunny hills and fields, and can reach 30-60 cm in height. The leaves are broad lanceolate, opposite and slightly enfold stems at the bases. The black gland dots are scattered on the surface and edge of leaves. The yellow flowers appear from July to September. The petals are obovate, triskelion-shaped and have black gland dots and black gland stripes. The leaves are used as a traditional remedy for incisure or neuralgia.
