メキシコの中東部、イダルゴ州（Hidalgo）が原産です。ふつうは単独に生え、高さ５５センチ、直径５０センチほどになります。茎は青緑色で、１１〜１５個の稜があり、稜上には中心に０〜１個と周りに６〜７個の黄色い棘があります。夏、茎頂付近に直径３〜４センチの黄色い花を咲かせます。果実は液果で白く、２センチほどの長さです。

サボテン科フェロカクツス属の玉サボテンで、学名は Ferocactus glaucescens。英名はありません。

Ferocactus glaucescens belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a barrel cactus that is native to eastern-central Mexico; Hidalgo. This cactus is generally solitary and can reach about 55 cm in height, about 20 cm in diameter. The stems are bluish green and have 11-15 ribs. They have yellowish 0-1 central spine and 6-7 radial spines on the ridges. The yellow flowers 3-4 cm in diameter come on the shoot apexes in summer. The fruits are white berries, about 2 cm long.
