The Namaqua sorrel (Oxalis namaquana) belongs to Oxalidaceae (the Wood sorrel family). It is a perennial herb that is found in the southwestern part of Africa, from Namibia to western South Africa. It grows in desert areas and dry shrub zones, along the edges of seasonal streams and in damp places, and is around 10 to 30 cm tall. It is covered in wooly hair all over. The leaves are basal and form a rosette, with three linear or oblong-elliptic leaflets. The petiole is 2 to 11 cm long. The flowers are bright yellow and tubular. The flowering period varies, but in general they bloom during the rainy season (November to March) in their natural habitat.
