南アメリカのパラグアイからボリビア、アルゼンチンが原産です。もっともふつうに栽培されているオキザリスの仲間で、高さは３０センチほどになります。塊茎があります。６月から９月ごろ、集散花序に、濃い筋のあるピンクからうす紫色の花を咲かせます。分類学的には「いもかたばみ（Oxalis articulata）」の亜種という位置づけですが、「いもかたばみ」に含める見解もあります。

The Windowbox wood sorrel (Oxalis rubra) belongs to Oxalidaceae (the Wood sorrel family). It is a perennial herb that is native to South America, from Paraguay to Bolivia and Argentina. It is the most commonly cultivated member of the oxalis family and grows to a height of about 30 cm. It produces pink to light purple flowers with dark streaks in cymes from June to September. Taxonomically, it is a subspecies of the Pink sorrel, but some consider it to be included in the Pink sorrel.
