The Daphne spirea (Spiraea japonica f. alpina) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a deciduous shrub that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. It is an alpine type of the "Japanese spiraea". It grows in rocky and gravelly areas in the mountains and is generally small, reaching a height of about 60 cm. The leaves, which are smaller than those of the "Japanese spiraea", are ovate to elliptic and alternate, with sharp serrations on the edges.
