スイカズラ科スイカズラ属の落葉低木で、学名は Lonicera gracilipes var. glabra。英名はありません。
The "Uguisu-kagura" (Lonicera gracilipes var. glabra) belongs to Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is a small deciduous tree that is a endemic species of Japan. This tree is distributed from southern Hokkaido to the Pacific Ocean Side of Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. This tree grows in the fields and mountains and can reach 2-3 m in height. The leaves are obovate to broad elliptic, alternate and glabrous. The pale ponceau flowers come in the axils from March to April. The fruits are edible berries and ripen red in May to June. The Japanese name "Uguisu" (Japanese bush warbler) is a metaphor for the way it pecks and dances the Kagura (Shinto music and dance).
