中国北部に広く分布する「いぬりんご（Malus prunifolia）」の変種です。江戸時代から観賞用に栽培されていますが、詳細はよく分かりません。４月から５月ごろ、淡紅色の花を上向きに咲かせます。果実は小さな楕円形のなし状果で、１０月に紅色に熟します。別名で「べにりんご（紅林檎）」とも呼ばれます。

The Chinese crabapple (Malus prunifolia var. rinki) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a semi-tall decidous tree. It is a variety of the Chinese crabapple (Malus prunifolia) that is distributed widely in northern China. This tree has been cultivate as an ornamental tree in Japan from the days of Edo Era (about 250 years ago), though it's historical trail is not known clearly. The pale rose-pink flowers bloom upward from April to May. The fruits are small, elliptic pomes and ripen red in October.
