The sea milkwort (Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is native northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido, the South Kuril Islands, Sakhalin, the Far East region of Russia, and the northern part of North America. This herb grows in coastal wetlands and can reach 5-20 cm in height. The stem is round and upright. The leaves are broad lanceolate or obovate oblong, opposite or three whorled, and hairless. The white or pink flowers come on the upper axils from July to August. The flower has no petals and has 5 deeply split calyxes. The fruit is an egg-shaped capsule. The elementary species is distributed in Europe.
