中国の南部からインドシナ半島、それに台湾に分布しています。亜熱帯バイオームに生え、高さは４～２０メートルになります。葉は楕円形から長楕円形または楕円状披針形で革質、長さは５～１５センチあり互生します。裏面には黄褐色の星状軟毛が密生しています。３月から５月ごろ、枝先および葉腋に総状花序をだし、白色の花を下垂して咲かせます。花冠は５裂し、裂片は外側に反転します。雄しべは１０個あり、花冠よりも長く突き出ます。果実は球形の蒴果です。台湾華語では「紅皮」、中国語では「栓葉安息香（shuan ye an xi xiang）」と呼ばれます。

エゴノキ科エゴノキ属の常緑小高木で、学名は Styrax suberifolius (syn. Styrax suberifolia, Styrax suberifolium)。英名は Cork leaf snowbell。

The Cork leaf snowbell (Styrax suberifolius) belongs to the family Styracaceae. It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is distributed from southern China to the Indochina Peninsula and Taiwan. It grows in subtropical biomes and is 4 to 20 m tall. The leaves are elliptic to oblong or elliptic-lanceolate, leathery, 5-15 cm long, and alternate. From March to May, white flowers bloom in drooping racemes at the tips of branches and leaf axils. The corolla is five lobed with the lobes inverted outward. There are 10 stamens, which protrude longer than the corolla. The fruit is a spherical capsule. It is called "紅皮" in Taiwanese and "栓葉安息香" (shuan ye an xi xiang) in Chinese.
