南アメリカが原産です。わが国へは、１９７０年代になって帰化しました。ロゼットの基部の葉は幅広く、地を這うようにして茎を伸ばします。葉の裏面や茎は白い毛に被われています。また葉の縁が波打つのが特徴です。５月から９月ごろ、茎を立たせて、褐色から紫色の目立たない頭花を咲かせます。

キク科ハハコグサ属の多年草で、学名は Gnaphalium spicatum。英名は Shiny cudweed。

The Shiny cudweed (Gnaphalium spicatum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to South America. It became naturalized in Japan in the 1970s. The leaves at the base of the rosette are broad, and the stem grows in a creeping manner on the ground. The underside of the leaves and stems are covered with white hairs. From May to September, it produces inconspicuous brown to purple flower heads on erect stems.
