The False pimpernel (Lindernia crustacea) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is an annual herb that is distributed to Japan, Taiwan, the Korean Penninsula, China, Southeast Asia and Micronesia. The stems are quadrangular and spread by creeping on the grounds. The leaves are ovate with coarsely-toothed margins. The small pale purple labiate flowers bloom on the long peduncles from August to October. The Japanese name "Uri-kusa" is named for the fruits similar to "Makuwa-uri" (Cucumis melo var. makuwa). In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "藍豬耳", and "母草" (mu cao).
