中国の長江流域が原産の「ほていちく（布袋竹）」の一品種です。桿の直径は７〜８センチ、高さは１０メートルほどになります。桿の断面は、タケ類のなかでも最も正円に近いものです。「ほていちく」のように、桿の下部に節間が極端に縮んで膨らんだ「寄り節」がないのが特徴です。

イネ科マダケ属のタケ類で、学名は Phyllostachys aurea f. takemurai。英名はありません。

"Usan-chiku" (Phyllostachys aurea f. takemurai) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a form of the fish pole bamboo that is native to the reach of Chang Jiang River. The culms can reach about 10 m in height, and 7-8 cm in diameter. The culms are almost round in section. The internodes are not short and swollen at the underneath culms.
