南太平洋のソロモン諸島やバヌアツ諸島に分布しています。幹は細く単幹で、高さは３メートルほどになります。葉は大きな扇形で、葉身が分裂しません。葉のあいだから花序を伸ばし、淡黄色の花を咲かせます。果実は赤く熟します。別名で、「まるはうちわやし（丸葉団扇椰子）」とも呼ばれます。

ヤシ科リクアラ属の常緑低木で、学名は Licuala grandis。英名は Licuala palm、Vanuatu fan palm。

The licuala palm (Licuala grandis) belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed to the Solomon Islands and the Vanuatu Islands in the South Pacific Ocean. This palm is a slim single trunk and can reach about 3 m in height. The leaves are large fun shaped and undivided. The pale yellow flowers are borne in the axillary inflorescences. The fruits ripen red.
